The state of Qatar is a sovereign independent state
which has been governed by the family of Al Thani since the
19th century. Qatar became independent on the 3rd of September
1971.
The present
Emir is Sheikh Hamad bin khalifa Al Thani who was born in 1952.
He is the eighth in the ruling family’s chain. He assumed
power on the 27th of June 1995.

His highness the emir appointed his son Sheikh Tamim
Bin Hamad Al Thani as an heir apparent in 2003.
In 1996
his highness appointed Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Thani as
prime Minister. in the same year, Sheikh Muhammad Bin khalifa
al Thani was appointed as Deputy Premier.
The Council of Ministers, formed by a a royal decree, is the
highest executive authority in the state. HH the Emir endorses
all the laws and legislations.
The country has also a Shura (counseling) council which is constituted
of thirty five members.
This council tackles political, administrative and economic
issues relegated to it by the council of Ministers.
